Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

The UK government launched the Renewable Heat Incentive in 2014 to promote the use of renewable energy. Heating systems that use eligible energy sources help the UK reduce its carbon emissions and meet its renewable energy targets. The RHI runs until March 2021 and then it finishes, and you can only apply once the installation is completed by an MCS registered installer, so it can be a couple of months from when you start to when you can apply. NOW is the time to install your Atmos Ephesus 24.

Currently, the tariff is 20.66 p/kWh. The Atmos Ephesus 24 generates around 1,000 kWh of thermal energy. This means you could be entitled to around £206.60 per annum for 7 years, an estimated total payback of £1,446.20. People who join the scheme receive quarterly payments for seven years for the amount of clean, green renewable heat it’s estimated their system produces.

The Renewable Heat Incentive has two schemes, one for domestic and one for commercial. They have separate tariffs, joining conditions, rules and application processes, and you can only apply to one the schemes. Both schemes are operated by Ofgem and they have produced this factsheet to help you decide which is for you and your solar thermal installation.
